Brothers,

Happy New Year! I hope this finds you well in the New Year and fully engaged in the planning of Cheerful Service to others; the Hallmark of our great organization.

Since it is the beginning of the new year, I wanted to personally reach out to each adult member of the Lodge and ask if you would consider volunteering as one of our 2016 committee advisers or volunteering to assist one of our seven (7) chapter advisers that are working ever so diligently to provide an exceptional leadership environment for all of our youth Arrowmen.

If you would review the following open committee adviser positions and consider volunteering to fill a vacancy, we would be very grateful for your consideration. These adviser roles provide the needed organization and structure to make us the Gold level Lodge that we are; All because of the dedicated volunteers we are so fortunate to have in the Heart of Virginia Council. Your leadership, serving in the capacity of a MENTOR to our youth leaders, is an extremely important part of our organization and success!!

Associate Advisers are also needed for all of our Lodge committees and Chapters to help facilitate the annual programs, quality leadership and opportunities for service to our units, council and communities.

If you are a registered adult in the BSA and dues paying Lodge member that may be looking for a little more challenging opportunity, we would greatly appreciate your consideration in fulfilling the Mission of the Order of the Arrow, which is to fulfill its purpose as an integral part of the Boy Scouts of America through positive youth leadership under the guidance of selected capable adults.

We're looking for those adult Lodge members who may be assistant Scoutmasters, Venture Leaders or Cub Scout leaders that may be transitioning out of a current role or looking for a way to continue to be involved in your Scouts leadership journey or for those adults whose Scouts are grown and on their own. Please contact me at your convenience using the contact information in the signature line.

However, if you are currently serving in a primary scouting role in a unit or at the District or Council level (i.e. Scoutmaster, Committee Chairperson, District Chairperson/Commissioner...etc.) we would ask that you delay your interest and commitment to the OA Adviser leadership at this point, as we firmly believe that the youth you are serving in these roles deserve your full undivided attention. You will ALWAYS be welcomed with open arms as a full participating Lodge member, of course, and we will always be here once you finish your commitment to your current leadership role and will always make room for you in our Lodge Leadership!!!

A Scout deserves a trained, passionate, capable adult to serve as their mentor...

Yours in Brotherhood and Cheerful Service,
Michael W. Lynch
