Updated Lodge Documents!

The Lodge Plan Book is now complete and available for viewing and the Where To Go Camping Guide was updated. These are both now available under the Resources tab at the top of the site. Just recently, the Lodge Rules was also added is available here as well.

Have you wanted to know how our Lodge is structured? What is expected (purpose, qualifications, responsibilities, etc) of each officer, adviser and committee chair? What about the Lodge Executive Committee? That and more can be found in the Nawakwa Lodge Plan Book here! This document is for the Lodge to use and maintain. Key roles should have edit access. Thanks to all who previously contributed to the Lodge Plan Book and were involved in updating this version.

The Order of the Arrow Nawakwa Lodge created the Where To Go Camping Guide (available here) to provide Scouts within the Heart of Virginia Council with helpful information on where to go camping. This guide also includes information on how to plan and run an outing as well as the various policies for camping set by the BSA.

Congratulations to John Gasink!

Congratulations to our Lodge's John Gasink being chosen for the 2020 Distinguished Service Award! He is from North Chesterfield, VA and has served as Director of Props and Costumes for Shows at each NOAC since 1998 and provided similar service at National Jamborees in 1997, 2001, 2005, and 2010. He has also provided adult leadership to conclave shows over the past twenty years. The Distinguished Service Award's purpose is to recognize and honor those Arrowmen who have rendered distinguished and outstanding service to the Order on a section, area, regional, or national basis. The award is given primarily for dedicated service to the Order and Scouting over a period of years.

Summer Events Update

While progress is being made, it is a slow process returning to any normalcy.  Because each of us continues to feel the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic, the governor is obviously acting out of an abundance of caution before relaxing his "Stay at Home" order set to expire June 10.

In consultation with our Supreme Chief of the Fire, Scout Executive George McGovern, we have concluded that it is in the best interests of everyone to CANCEL our Summer Induction Weekend scheduled for May 29-31.

I apologize to those future Arrowmen that are still waiting to complete their induction into the Order of the Arrow.  I also regret the delay for our Ordeal members wanting to seal their membership by attaining Brotherhood.  Rest assured, with patience, your day will come.

With our Summer Induction Weekend is officially cancelled, our efforts will now focus on our obligation to serve.  We will look for opportunities to assist the Council with its efforts to ready Camp T. Brady Saunders and Cub Adventure Camp for Summer Camp if and when that happens.  Once that is determined, I will call on our Arrowmen that are willing to help to do what is necessary to get camps open for business.

Our Council depends on our efforts to prepare camp for the summer program of young campers excited to get that opportunity to spend a week at Camp T. Brady Saunders or at Cub Adventure Camp.  It is our obligation to do our part not letting them down, for many of them are our future Arrowmen.

Even if the "Stay at Home" order is lifted and we have permission once again to meet, I would continue to stress the importance of social distancing and personal hygiene.  Everyone is anxious to return to some normalcy, but it won't be as easy as turning on a light switch. I will certainly understand if you decide not to participate until a later time when you feel comfortable and willing to engage.

Thank you, and please continue to be healthy and safe.
